Payton is a mixed-media artist employing a multitude of techniques and disciplines, resulting in pieces that are a conduit for an experiential journey. The joy of building and joining diverse, unrelated materials and objects in a directly unencumbered way invites the viewer to explore a primal sense of wonder beneath a comforting sense of order.

In my appropriation and transformation of re-purposed objects, I disguise the items’ original identities to enhance their aesthetic potentials. In my installations and sculptures, an incongruous juxtaposition of commonplace objects allows us to make connections and alters the way we originally see and understand the objects.

Everything I do as an artist has to do with experience: reality is the undercurrent
of every work of art in that it re-emerges transformed, as a kind of fictionalization of what is real.  

My photographs explore sculptural items found in nature. I then approach the image as a found object, which I print as is or enhance with collage.

In my studio shoots, I consider the human figure a support for parts of my sculptures and costumes and approach it as an assemblage/installation.
